Providing the needs of at-risk youth for years to come

The Idaho Youth Ranch came to ZGA to provide complete planning, design, and construction administration services for the new Hays Shelter Home in Boise. The original shelter was over capacity and in need of significant repair and upgrade so the
Youth Ranch made the decision to construct a new shelter home to provide for the needs of at-risk youth for years to come. The design of the Hays Shelter Home met the client’s
expectations for providing an environment that is welcoming, warm, and fun but with the ability to withstand the rigors of youth in a safe surrounding. The Youth Ranch wanted the look and feel of a "high-tech ski lodge." The palette responds to that request with tones, textures, and materials that are soft and sturdy at the same time. The vaulted ceilings in the dining room provide abundant natural light in a gracious setting that seats all youth and staff at one grand table. Support spaces include a commercial kitchen, administrative offices, board conference room, and an outdoor fire ring.
